Композиц. м., у к-рых входящие в композицию элементы выполнены в виде слоев. Слои-элементы (из металла, стеклопластика и т.д.) для с. м. могут изготовляться отдельно (в форме плит, листов, лент и т.д.), а затем соединяться заклепками, болтами, сваркой, совместной прокаткой, прессованием. С. м. получают тж. выделением слоев в первонач. объеме материала локальным изменением структуры материала (напр., односторон. закалкой или отпуском стальных плит, наклепом) или технологич. совмещ. образования слоев и композиции в целом (напр., выплавкой многослойных слитков, прокаткой свар, слябов, спеканием и прессованием слоистых порошковых конгломератов). С. м. — конструкц. материал со значит. уд. прочностью.
